As with many other pulmonary conditions, ultrasound may be a better diagnostic tool than routine chest radiography. In an era where computed tomography scanning is deferred because of the potential for cross-contamination, we evaluated the ability of LUS to detect a pattern of lung injury in SARS-CoV-2 pneumonia. A limited anterolateral LUS was performed to limit time spent in isolation rooms by ultrasound operators. We chose to use a hand-held ultrasound device due to portability and superior confidence in infection control. Both linear and phased array probes were used to obtain images of the pleura and lung. Of 69 patients who had lung ultrasound images saved and were included in the analysis, 36 were positive for SARS-CoV-2. Multifocal confluent B-lines, pleural irregularities, and the absence of moderate or large pleural effusions were the predominant pattern observed in most (86%) of SARS-CoV-2-positive patients. We evaluated the accuracy of the above criteria (LUS-CoV) and report a high sensitivity (91%) and specificity (86%) for SARS-CoV-2 pneumonia. In conclusion, a characteristic sonographic pattern of multifocal confluent B-lines with irregular pleural markings was seen on LUS in patients with SARS-CoV-2 pneumonia.Of adolescents utilizing behavioral health services, between 45% and 62% (Farmer et al., 2003; Merikangas et al., 2011) become involved in multiple systems (i.e., mental health, juvenile justice, child welfare, and education systems) to meet their behavioral health needs (e.g., Glisson &amp; Green, 2006). Despite their involvement in treatment, these youths often still have unmet needs due to lack of integrated care across systems (e.g., Hawkins, 2009). Adolescent behavior problems may be conceptualized differently to account for the unique needs of youth involved in multiple systems. Using a sample of 433 youth in need of behavioral health treatment services, we (1) identified distinct classes of systems involvement across four systems, (2) compared youth comprising these classes on demographics and DSM-IV diagnoses, and (3) examined changes in delinquency and substance use over time among the youth comprising the systems involvement class groupings. Using latent class analysis, we identified two distinct classes of adolescent systems involvement one with heavy involvement in all systems and the other with high involvement in only the education and mental health systems. Latent growth curve analyses using most likely class membership as a predictor demonstrated that adolescents with heavy involvement in all systems showed significantly more decreases in delinquent activity than comparison youth, but less decreases in substance use over a one-year follow-up period. Our findings support that it is clinically useful to examine classes of multiple systems involvement. Treatment providers can use these findings identify whether or not their clients are heavily involved in all systems and tailor their approach accordingly. This review describes the current regulation, quality control, safety and efficacy of pet supplements and nutraceuticals targeted towards the dog, cat and horse.The objective of this study was to identify the carotenoids imparting the orange colour to the rind, and pale yellow color to the core, of selected smear-ripened cheeses. The cheeses investigated were Charloe, Ashbrook, Taleggio, and Limburger, and were sourced from artisanal markets. Samples of the rind and core were extracted using non-polar solvents, followed by saponification to hydrolyze triglycerides to remove fatty acids, and to release carotenoid esters. Extracts were tested using ultra-high pressure liquid chromatograph-diode array detector-high resolution mass spectrometry (UHPLC-DAD-MS and -MS/MS), and identities of α- and β-carotene, lycopene, and β-cryptoxanthin confirmed with authentic standards. β-Carotene was the predominant species in both the rind and core, absorbing ~70% of the signal at 450 nm in all cheese extracts tested, as well as minor quantities of β-cryptoxanthin and α-carotene. Carotenoids unique to the rind included lycopene as well as the rare bacterial carotenoids previously identified in bacterial isolates of cheeses (i.e. decaprenoxanthin, sarcinaxanthin, and echinenone).
